  14. I have a Best Data 2834F internal modem.  I have no problem with the performance 
  15. of modem, with the exception that I cant hear the dialtone/handshake sequence.
  16. I just get a brief (1 sec) dialtone, then silence untils it connects.  I've
  17. tried editing the init string in regedit, but that poses further problems.
  18. First, there are two places for init strings.  One is under Modem/0000/Init &
  19. the other is under Modem/0000/Settings/Init, each with different strings. 
  20. Which is the correct one to edit?  Also, when I do change one string or the 
  21. other, they get reset to thier original values whenever I restart Win95.
  22. How do I make the changes permanent?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
